The position CSS property sets how an element is positioned in a document. The top , right , bottom , and left properties determine the final location of positioned elements.
An element with position: relative; is positioned relative to its normal position. Setting the top, right, bottom, and left properties of a relatively-positioned element will cause it to be adjusted away from its normal position. Other content will not be adjusted to fit into any gap left by the element. CSS Layout - The position Property - W3Schools W3Schools css csspositioning W3Schools css csspositioning
Static - this is the default value, all elements are in order as they appear in the document. Relative - the element is positioned relative to its normal position. Absolute - the element is positioned absolutely to its first positioned parent. Fixed - the element is positioned related to the browser window.

If you position it as absolute , then youre positioning it relative to its closest ancestor which is fixed or relative Clearly, nothing can be absolute and relative at the same time. Either you want the element to position itself based on another ancestors position or based on the page flow.
