We know theres only two binary values, 0 and 1, but a system designer can designate either to represent on, and the other for off. I have worked with systems that do it both ways. However, the generally accepted convention is to use 0 to represent off, and 1 to represent on.
binary code, code used in digital computers, based on a binary number system in which there are only two possible states, off and on, usually symbolized by 0 and 1.
OR. OR takes two numbers and produces the union of them. Heres the process to OR two binary numbers together: line up each number so the bits match up, then compare each of their bits that share a position. For each bit comparison, if either or both bits are 1, the value of the result at that bit-position is 1.
The I and 0 are based on the binary system, with I as the number one and 0 as zero. Pushing the side of the button with I will turn your device on. Conversely,0 means off. An easy way to differentiate is to think of the 0 as allowing your electronics to do zero functions, therefore, turned off.
Binary vs. Since the binary system uses only two digits or bits and represents numbers using varying patterns of 1s and 0s, it is known as a base-2 system. Here, 1 refers to on or true, while 0 refers to off or false.
The best way to read a binary number is to start with the right-most digit and work your way left. The power of that first location is zero, meaning the value for that digit, if its not a zero, is two to the power of zero, or one. In this case, since the digit is a zero, the value for this place would be zero.
For computers, 1 is true or on, and 0 is false or off. The concept of binary and bits are based on of Boolean Algebra. The binary number system is positional. So even though it only works with 1s and 0s, the position of those two digits can represent much more.
In binary, each digit is referred to as a bit, which is short for binary digit. The value of each bit depends on its position within a number, with the rightmost bit representing the ones place, the next bit to the left representing the twos place and so on.
