Just go to the Layer tab, then click Mask All Objects. Photoshop will then create a mask, on its own layer, for every object it detects in the image. For example, if you have six people in a portrait image, each person will masked on their own layer, as well as the group together on a separate layer.
Use Select Subject to tell Photoshop to automatically select the main subject on a layer. Then add a layer mask. The layer mask automatically hides the area that was not selectedthe background around the subject.
With the selection active, click the Add layer mask button in the Layers panel. On the layer mask, there is white where there was a selection (the subject) and black where there was no selection (the background). The black hides the area that was not selected.
You can create a layer mask from a selection by selecting the layer you want to mask, then going to Layer Layer Mask Reveal Selection or Hide Selection in the Photoshop menu. This will create a layer mask based on your selection, allowing you to hide or reveal parts of the image within the selected area.
In the Layers panel, just click on the little Eye icon to the left of the layers thumbnail and it hides that layer from view. To see it again, click where the Eye icon used to be. To see just one particular layer (and hide all the rest), press-and-hold the Option (PC: Alt) key, and then click on the layers Eye icon.
