It is able to do this because a QR code is a pattern that can be easily recreated with an algorithm. At most, a QR code can be damaged by 30% and it still can be scanned properly without any error. However, this is limited to QR codes with a lower number of squares or QR code data size.
Keep in mind that extreme digression from a QR Codes shape will make it unrecognizable and unscannable for QR Code scanners.
Like barcodes, QR codes are designed with data redundancy. Even if as much as 30% of the QR code is destroyed or difficult to read, the data can still be recovered.
A QR code is a picture - you cant disable it. If theres a QR code of what, your WiFi password? Then anyone can see what the password is. Your only option is to delete the file the QR code picture is in. If you mean the WPS button, connect to the routers admin console and you should find a disable WPS function.
When a QR scanner is scanning a QR code, it actually scans these modules independently. This means that if one of the eight squares (or bytes) in the module happens to be covered up, the scanner will render the entire module as unreadable.
Aim for a minimum size of 2 cm x 2 cm (0.8 inches x 0.8 inches) for best results. The farther away you expect users to be while scanning the code, the bigger you should make the code. As a rule of thumb, for every 10 cm of distance to the code, add an extra 1 cm to the length and width of the code.
You can disguise your QR code as part of an image. Since visual QR codes are customizable, you can add them to the overall picture using the same color scheme. By doing so, you will still be able to maintain the images aesthetic, and users wont notice that you hide a QR code in that image.
It is recommended to keep a quarter-inch (. 25) of white space all the way around the QR Code. This much white space makes it possible for practically any smartphone to scan it without difficulty. This quiet zone is a buffer between the Code and its surroundings.
