Why does Kindle no longer support MOBI?

MOBI is an older file format and does not support the latest Kindle features for documents. If you wish to enjoy our most up-to-date document features, please re-send files in a compatible format. EPUB (. epub) is one such compatible format, and you can send it to your library from the Send to Kindle web app.

Is MOBI deprecated?

The MOBI format was deprecated by Amazon in late 2023 and is no longer supported.

How do I add a cover image to a MOBI file?

Select the ePub or Mobi/Kindle build youd like to modify in the build list. If the Template settings tab is not displayed, click Customize. On the Template settings tab, click Cover Picture. This displays a drop-down menu of the images in your library.

Does MOBI support images?

Uploading your Images Image uploads are limited to 1MB per image. Supported image types are PNG, JPG and GIF.

How to make MOBI format?

You cannot create and edit MOBI files any more. Before the MOBI format was discontinued, authors were able to create and edit MOBI files in various eBook software like Calibre and Kindle Create. Today, if you want to edit an eBook that has been created in the MOBI format, you will first need to convert it.

What is replacing MOBI?

Over the last two years, as of this writing, Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has slowly phased out the MOBI file in favor of the EPUB file for ebooks. Starting from 2022, there is no longer any reason why you would ever need a MOBI file ever.

Is Amazon no longer accepting MOBI files?

Amazon uses the MOBI and AZW file formats for its Kindle software and readers. But as per their recent email, they are discontinuing support for MOBI ebooks. MOBI is an ancient ebook format and can no longer fit in with the latest developments in ebook technology and features offered by Amazon.

Is MOBI being discontinued?

As of August 2022, Amazon is discontinuing the ability to send MOBI files to Kindle via the Amazon Kindle Personal Documents Service that is used by Send to Kindle. To learn more, see these articles:
