To directly answer your question, to hide a logical section of a document which has an outline heading for that section select the text and press Ctrl+Shift+H to mark it as hidden.
Quick steps for creating a clipping mask: Select a text or graphic layer to fill with an image. Click Fill with image on the tool palette & choose an image. Select Edit image fill on the Text Tools panel. Adjust the image behind your text or shapes, then click Done.
If you want to ensure that an image stays put even if the text around it is deleted, you can lock its anchor: Select the picture. Select the Layout Options icon. Select See more, and then select Lock anchor.
