Try this: #!/usr/bin/env bash. password= character= prompt=Password: echo -n ${prompt} 2. while true; do. read -N 1 -s character. [ ${character} == $\n ] break.
Thus the entered characters are masked or hidden. To make a textbox that can hide the entered characters, the type attribute of element should be set to password.
We saw that we can use the read command with its -s option to hide the user input. We can also use the stty command for disabling and enabling the echoing of user input. The getpass() method of the getpass module of the Python programming language can be another alternative.
Type an asterisk (*) to produce a prompt for the password. The password is not displayed when you type it at the password prompt. So, just use * (a single asterisk) instead of your password in the command line, and then you will be prompted to type your password and it is not displayed on the screen.
If you want to prevent others from reading the file, you can use something else with the chmod command, like chmod 711 file which will make the file executable for everyone, but only able to be read or edited by you, the owner. 711 will not work for scripts. The shell cant execute commands that it cant read.
Use an MSA or gMSA account which have the least allowed permissions of the task it should do. Create a scheduled task which runs with the account, this can be done in PS without even having to specify the password. No password is ever exposed and it will run with the accounts user context.
So you can use the command sudo -n -i -u user2 /usr/local/bin/script.sh to run the script as user2 with their environment variables set, without being prompted for a password.
