Base64 is a binary to a text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an ASCII string format. It is designed to carry data stored in binary format across the network channels. Base64 mechanism uses 64 characters to encode. These characters consist of: 10 numeric value: i.e., 0,1,2,3,,9.
Base64 encoding is a text encoding string that represents binary data into an ASCII string, allowing it to carry data stored in a binary format across channels. To better understand base64, we first need to understand data and channels.
In the number system, the radix or base is the number of distinct digits, including the digit zero, used to represent numbers in a positional numeral system.
Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters. Radix-64 characters require the binary input to be split into blocks of 6. These numbers (which all range from 0 - 63) are then mapped onto a character set of printable characters.
Radix-64 (as described for OpenPGP) The checksum is calculated on the input data before encoding; the checksum is then encoded with the same Base64 algorithm and, using an additional = symbol as separator, appended to the encoded output data.
Radix-64 is a method of encoding binary data into American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) characters, which are readable text.
