The Windows command-line interpreter uses a caret character ( ^ ) to escape reserved characters that have special meanings (in particular: , | , ( , ) , , , ^ ). The DOS command-line interpreter, though it has similar syntax, does not support this.
To create a fenced code block that spans multiple lines of code, set the text inside three or more backquotes ( ``` ) or tildes ( ~~~ ).
Rules for when to use escape characters String values must be enclosed in double quotation marks ( ). If a string value contains a double quotation mark ( ), that double quotation mark must be escaped. Otherwise, the search will misinterpret where the string value ends.
An exclamation mark: ! ; followed by a set of square brackets, containing the alt attribute text for the image; followed by a set of parentheses, containing the URL or path to the image, and an optional title attribute enclosed in double or single quotes.
There are two ways to hide content: To hide Markdown, use the {toggle} directive. To hide or remove code cells or their outputs, use notebook cell tags.
The \ is known as the escape code, which restore the original literal meaning of the following character. Similarly, * , + , ? (occurrence indicators), ^ , $ (position anchors) have special meaning in regex. You need to use an escape code to match with these characters.
markdown documents, certain characters such as apostrophes, quotation marks, ellispses and percent signs need to be escaped using \.
The ampersand character must be escaped. The greater than and less than characters do no have to be escaped but its good practice to do it. The double quotes in the data must be escaped. The double quotes do not need escaping as they are contained within a single quoted attribute.
