Hey there again. Laser Dave with Trotec Laser. Have you ever had the need to engrave raw wood and when you engrave the raw wood the staining that comes is very difficult to remove? Well, Iamp;#39;m going to show you a laser hack today that will show you how to keep that from happening. Come with me, let me show you how to start: Cover your raw plywood or wood with an application or transfer tape as you see here. Then go ahead and engrave your graphic into the surface of that wood. And as you can see here the staining and residue is now stuck to the surface of that mask that has been placed on the surface of that wood. Now to remove that mask is the laser hack here. The scorching of laser-cut plywood is prevented by a simple layer of masking or transfer tape. Just apply a layer of transfer tape to the plywood or MDF before cutting. A medium tack paper tape like MAIN PerfecTear Plus would be a good choice.

Add masking over top (there may be some cases where you skip this I will explain) Laser-cut or engrave your design on top of the foil.
Can any laser engraver machine be used to darken the engraving on metal? While laser engraving machines can produce markings on metal, not all machines are designed to darken the engraving. The Monport GPro 60W Split MOPA Fiber Laser Engraver is specifically designed for darkening laser engravings on metal.
When looking to achieve a dark black appearance, treating wood with solutions such as water and borax or baking soda before engraving can be helpful. Other makers find that using products designed to enhance appearance after engraving is ideal.
One of the biggest challenges with engraving on metal with your Cricut Maker is that it can be hard to see your design. You may think it needs to be deeper, but what you need is contrast. Usually, you would do that by adding black ink or enamel to darken the engraved area.
My paint of choice is Rust-Oleum flat black (non-aerosol). This is available at hardware stores everywhere. There are other flat black paints available, and they probably work just as well. Be sure to use flat black and not satin black, as satin black produces small amount of shine which is undesirable.
