There are different types of engravings including the following; Etching. Etching is a type of engraving that is used on crystal, stone, and glass. Rotary Engraving. Rotary Engraving is used on certain metals including gold, sterling silver, copper, and aluminium. Laser Engraving.
Wetting the wood: Lightly wetting the surface of the wood before engraving/cutting will help avoid burn marks. Be careful, however, not to soak the wood for too long.
To seal your laser cut leather engraving, apply a light coat of beeswax, saddle soap, or leather conditioner oil. Allow it to air dry completely. Apply a second coat if needed. Then, coat the smooth grain leather with a protective leather sealer, covering all the way to the edges.
Apply Darkening Agent: Once the engraving is complete, apply a darkening agent or ink to the engraved area. Brush or rub the agent into the engraved lines or markings, ensuring it fills all the grooves. Clean Excess Darkening Agent: Wipe off any excess darkening agent from the surface using a clean cloth or tissue.
One common method is to apply a metal patina to darken the engraved areas. This involves carefully brushing the patina chemical onto the laser-engraved sections using a small, soft brush. The patina reacts with the metal to create darkened areas in the engraving.
To produce the black effects we want, the out-of-focus technique is used to keep the focus away from the material, which reduces the peak power and keeps the laser from damaging the metal surface.
