The most popular place to carry a concealed handgun on the body is on the strong side (right side if youre right-handed, left side if youre left-handed), usually just behind the hip. We call this the 4 oclock position.
Kidney Carry (4-5 oclock) This position may be popular for IWB, but its also a common position to carry OWB. Kidney carry is located at 4-5 oclock if you are right-handed or 7-8 oclock for lefties. Since your firearm sits right behind your hip in this position, it is generally pretty easy to conceal.
For right-hand dominant shooters, square on the strong side hip is 3 oclock, just behind the hip is 4 oclock, and right next to the kidney is 5 oclock. The traditional IWB position for a right handed shooter is 4:30.
The most popular place for concealed carry is around the waist. Sometimes known as around the clock, this style of concealed carry is depicted as looking down at your waist as a clock face. Carrying in this fashion places your firearm at an easy-to-grab location.
The 4 oclock carry position is when a weapon is worn just behind the right hip. An easy way to think about it is if you imagine an analog clock face where 12 oclock represents the front of a person and 6 oclock represents the back of them, 4 oclock would be just behind the right hip.
One carry position that is often recommended for driving is cross-body. While this isnt an overly common way to carry in a typical setting, it is both comfortable and easy to draw from while seated, making it a great option if you plan to be in the car for hours at a time.
Wearing your holster IWB means positioning it between your body and the inside of your waistband. We will use clock positions to orient ourselves here. For right-hand dominant shooters, square on the strong side hip is 3 oclock, just behind the hip is 4 oclock, and right next to the kidney is 5 oclock.
