While a sword likely would be considered an other dangerous or deadly weapon usually employed in the attack on or defense of a person, under Maines weapon law, the statute only imposes restrictions on such weapons when they are carried concealed or when they displayed in a threatening manner. Open and concealed carry are legal in Maine without a permit​. Any person 21 or older, or at least 18 and active duty or honorably discharged military, who can legally possess a firearm, is allowed to carry openly or concealed.
Knives of the type used for hunting, fishing, or fur trapping are excluded and may be carried concealed. Moreover, knives that are not designed for, or usually employed in the attack or defense of a human may be carried under ones clothes or concealed.
Maine has its own laws, but there is also a federal law that prohibits a felon, or someone classified as a prohibited person, from possessing a firearm or ammunition. Under federal law, a prohibited person is defined as: A person convicted of a felony.
Brass knuckles are illegal in the state of Maine.
