Under a recent change to New York State Law, people who have concealed carry permits are required to redocHub their permit with the New York State Police every three years.
Per LRS 40:1379.3 H (2), permits are valid for a period of five (5) years. Residents that obtain a lifetime permit shall provide proof of completion of educational training every five (5) years per LRS 40:1379.3 V (4).

The course is led by DCJS authorized instructors and complies with the New York State Penal Law 400.00(19), which mandates a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of in-person live curriculum firearm safety training and two (2) hours of live-fire training for all applicants for a New York City Concealed Carry Pistol Permit.
Existing law requires an applicant to pass the written test to obtain or renew a firearm safety certificate. Existing law authorizes a fee of $25 to obtain or renew a firearm safety certificate. Existing law provides that a firearm safety certificate shall expire 5 years after the date of issuance.
The safety course must be completed prior to submitting an application. NYS Law specifies the curriculum and that it must be 16 hour classroom/2 hour live fire. Submit the Certificate of Completion with your application.
You also do NOT need to take the 18-hours of training to re-docHub your pistol license every three-years with the state.
