We will talk about how to implement lazy lists and grids, how to add items, animate inside your content, cover new and upcoming features, as well as useful optimization tips and insight into lazy layouts performance. Now, if youve ever used RecyclerView before, youll be very familiar with the main concept behind lazy layouts-- rendering a scrollable list of items as they become visible in the screen rather than all at once. In cases where you have a docHub number of items or large data sets to load, using lazy layouts would allow you to add content on demand, increasing your apps performance and responsiveness. As the name suggests, the difference between LazyColumn and LazyRow is the orientation in which they lay out their items and scroll. LazyColumn produces a vertically scrolling list, and LazyRow produces a horizontally scrolling list.
Surface is used when you want a surface for your UI , you can set the background color, shape etc. Card on the other hand, have default elevation(Material Design Standard) and pretty much have every property as the surface .
In many cases, you can just use Composes standard layout elements. Use Column to place items vertically on the screen. Similarly, use Row to place items horizontally on the screen. Both Column and Row support configuring the alignment of the elements they contain.
The following layouts are available in Jetpack Compose: The Box layout stacks every child on top of each other. The Column layout stacks children in a vertical sequence. The Row layout stacks children in a horizontal sequence.
A LazyColumn is a vertically scrolling list that only composes and lays out the currently visible items. Its similar to a Recyclerview in the classic Android View system. A Column will show each child below the previous children. Its similar to a LinearLayout with vertical orientation.
We can make the Column scrollable by using the verticalScroll() modifier.
