in this video i am going to show you how to get the column letter in google sheets so sometimes when you are working in a spreadsheet you may want to be able to get the column letter for a given column number to do this we have to create our own custom formula by combining two functions together and so what we will end up with is a function where you can input a column number and it will return the column letter so the first function we need to learn is the address function this is the basic syntax of the address function the first argument is row this is just the row number of the cell reference and then the second argument is column and this is just the column number of the cell reference and so a is column one b is column 2 c is column 3 and etc and then the third argument that were going to use in this function is absolute relative mode basically what this just does is it specifies the absolute mode of your cell reference so its going to be set to 1 by default what we want to us

R1C1 is the other type of reference style that you can use in Excel. Here, R refers to the Row and C refers to the column, so R1C1 would refer to the cell in the first row and first column. Similarly, R2C3 would refer to the cell in the second row and third column.

Go to the menu Excel and select Preferences. Select the item General (first item) Uncheck the checkbox R1C1 reference style. Click OK and things should be back to normal.
R1C1 notation describes a cell or range reference using a row number and column number. R1C1 is an absolute reference to the cell at position (1,1) in your Sheet, i.e. A1 in regular notation.
In order to show (or hide) the row and column numbers and letters go to the View ribbon. Set the check mark at Headings. Thats it!
Note: To change the reference style that Excel uses, click the File tab, click Options, and then click Formulas. Under Working with formulas, select or clear the R1C1 reference style check box.
Cause: The default cell reference style (A1), which refers to columns as letters and refers to rows as numbers, was changed. On the Excel menu, click Preferences. Under Authoring, click General . Clear the Use R1C1 reference style check box. The column headings now show A, B, and C, instead of 1, 2, 3, and so on.
This can be done in two ways: by using inbuilt functions or a custom one. Change column number to alphabet (A to Z) Convert column number to letter (any column) Get column letter from column number with custom function. Get column letter of a specific cell. Get column letter of the current cell.
Create a calculated column Create a table. Insert a new column into the table. Type the formula that you want to use, and press Enter. When you press Enter, the formula is automatically filled into all cells of the column above as well as below the cell where you entered the formula.
How to switch back column headings to letters (A, B, C) Go To File and click on Options. Select Formulas on the left hand side. Set the tick at R1C1 reference style.
