Select Layout Breaks Next Page. Double-click the header or footer on the first page of the new section. Click Link to Previous to turn it off and unlink the header or footer from the previous section. Note: Headers and footers are linked separately.
Choose File Compile, then click the Compile for menu at the top of the dialog and choose Microsoft Word (. docx). In the Formats sidebar, click Default if its not highlighted. You dont need to make any other changes for a basic export, so just click Compile, and choose a location for your file.
Try it! Select Insert Header or Footer. Select one of the built in designs. Type the text you want in the header or footer. Select Close Header and Footer when youre done.
On the status bar, click the Page Layout View button. Select the header or footer text you want to change. On the Home tab in the Font group, set the formatting options that you want to apply to the header / footer. When youre done, click the Normal view button on the status bar.

Youll need at least two different headers to see the full benefit of this technique. With the header open in edit mode press Ctrl+a to select everything in the header. Click the Insert tab, and then choose Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery (Figure B) from the Quick Parts drop-down (its in the Text group).
Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
Add a standard or customized header or footer Go to Insert Header or Footer. Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want. Or, create your own header or footer by selecting Edit Header or Edit Footer.
Heres how: Select Page Layout. Select the Page Setup launcher to open the Page Setup dialog box. In the dialog box, select the Header/Footer tab. Select your preset header from either the Header or Footer drop-down list. Select OK to close the dialog box. Use the Page Setup dialog box to set your headers and footers.
Double-click the header or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page) to open the Header Footer tab. Check Different First Page to see if its selected. If not: Select Different First Page.
