A combination chart is a graph which shows two types of charts in a single graph. Two different sets of data which are related to a common point can be represented on a single graph using the combination chart. This consists of a line chart overlaid on a column chart.
In general, there are two or three types of charts combined together to show a relationship between data points. Typically, a bar chart and a line chart are used together. However, an area chart or dot chart could be incorporated.
If your two charts contain different types of data, you cant combine the two charts into one. If both charts have a numeric Y axis, Excel actually will allow you to perform the task, but the resulting chart may not make much sense.
Use Excels chart wizard to make a combo chart that combines two chart types, each with its own data set. Select the two sets of data you want to use to create the graph. Choose the Insert tab, and then select Recommended Charts in the Charts group.
Steps under Excel 2016 Create a normal chart, for example stacked column. Right click on the data series you want to change. Click on Change Series Chart Type. Select your desired second chart type, e.g. line charts. If necessary set the tick at Secondary Axis if necessary. Confirm by clicking on OK.
You can emphasize different types of data, such as Temperature and Precipitation, by combining two or more chart types in one Combo chart. Different types of data, often, have different value ranges and with a Combo chart, you can include a secondary axis.
Click on the first chart and then hold the Ctrl key as you click on each of the other charts to select them all. Click Format Group Group.
The combination chart is a visualization that combines the features of the bar chart and the line chart. The combination chart displays the data using a number of bars and/or lines, each of which represent a particular category.
Click anywhere in the chart you want to change to a combo chart to show the CHART TOOLS. Click DESIGN Change Chart Type. On the All Charts tab, choose Combo, and then pick the Clustered Column - Line on Secondary Axis chart.
Combination charts are designed to visually highlight differences between sets of data and make it easy to see one set of information presented in relationship with other data. For instance, in the example below, the combination chart uses a bar chart and a line graph together.
