Compelling Character Voice Another positive of first person perspective is that it offers you, as the writer, the opportunity to develop a compelling and creative voice for your character. For example, if your character has a witty, effervescent personality, then the narration will shine with their fun personality.

Writing Concisely Eliminate unnecessary phrases and redundancies. Use clear and straightforward language. Write in active voice. Shorten wordy phrases. Try recasting sentences that start with I more objectively, so that the focus is on the what the emotion, the object, the person, the action and so on rather than the sense being used to experience it or the I-narrator doing the experience. Use the principles of free indirect speech to reduce your I count.
Here, by focusing on what the essay will do (rather than what the author will do in the essay), we can eliminate use of the first person and maintain a more impersonal tone.
