To create inline code, wrap with backticks ` . To create a code block, either indent each line by 4 spaces, or place 3 backticks ``` on a line above and below the code block. A code block or span displays every character inside exactly as it was typed.
Pasting Markdown text from another source If you dont want the content to be automatically formatted, use Cmd+Shift+V (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+V (Windows) to paste. If you paste text with Markdown commands from a rich text editor, the Markdown commands remain as is. The content is not automatically formatted.
Comments can span either a single line or multiple lines. This may be useful for you to write draft content. If you use RStudio, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + C ( Command + Shift + C on macOS) to comment out a line of text.
Markdown is an easy-to-use markup language that is used with plain text to add formatting elements (headings, bulleted lists, URLs) to plain text without the use of a formal text editor or the use of HTML tags. Markdown is device agnostic and displays the writing format consistently across device types.
The file should have an .md or .markdown extension. Open the Markdown file in a Markdown application. Use the Markdown application to convert the Markdown file to an HTML document. View the HTML file in a web browser or use the Markdown application to convert it to another file format, like PDF.
To strikethrough words, use two tilde symbols ( ~~ ) before and after the words.
Markdown language simplifies formatting plain text by using keyboard strokes. For example, to display a HEADING 1 the Markdown syntax is to precede the plain text word with the Markdown hash tag #HEADING 1. When the text displays in a browser, browsers recognize the Markdown syntax and display the text as HEADING 1.
