Generally, viral clearance occurs in 12-18 months, followed by histological regression. All the CIN1 lesions caused by transient HPV infections achieved clearance and histological regression.
Normal Pap test results: No abnormal cervical cells were found. A normal test result may also be called a negative test result or negative for intraepithelial lesion (area of abnormal growth) or malignancy.
A vaginal speculum widens your vaginal walls so that your provider can examine your vagina and your cervix. Its most commonly used during pelvic exams and Pap smears, but its used in many other gynecological procedures, too.
Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions usually go away on their own without treatment, but sometimes they can become cancer and spread into nearby tissue. Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion is sometimes called mild dysplasia. Also called LSIL.
Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions (LSIL) means there are low-grade changes that are usually caused by an HPV infection. Your health care provider will likely ask you to come back for more testing, as explained on page 10, to make sure that there are not more serious (high-grade) changes.
In about 10 percent of cases, LSIL progresses to high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) within two years.
You probably wont need treatment: A low-grade abnormality such as LSIL suggests that if we biopsied the cervix, there would only be a few abnormal cells. They would likely go away without treatment. Its not permanent: The cell change that shows up as LSIL is usually reversible.
Results and Follow-Up Normal: No sign of disease. This means nothing irregular was found. Unclear: The lab couldnt determine whether the cells are normal or abnormal. Your healthcare provider may have you come back immediately or in six months for another Pap smear. Abnormal: The cells look different than they should.
