Yes, the seven seals have been opened. This was prophetic of the beginning of the Gospel Age. The scroll in the right hand of God (Revelation 4, ending of chapter) had seven seals but the lamb of God (chapter 5) prevailed, and began to lose the seals, so that the content of the scroll could be seen.
Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, Come! I looked, and behold, a white horse, and the one who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
Jesus Christ was the only one worthy to open this book, which He did, one seal at a time. As He opened each seal, John saw a vision of what was contained in that part of the book.
Revelation 5 1 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.
The opening of the first four Seals releases the Four Horsemen, each with his own specific mission. The opening of the fifth Seal releases the cries of martyrs for the Word/Wrath of God. The sixth Seal prompts plagues, storms and other cataclysmic events.
In this verse John watches as the Lamb of God opens the first of seven seals. We learn from chapter 5 that Jesus is the Lamb and He alone has the moral and legal right to open the scroll that He took from Gods right hand (Revelation 5:57). Further, He alone is worthy to open the seven seals that kept the scroll shut.
The first seal releases a crowned horseman wielding a bow and riding atop a white horse. Some Christian historicists believe that the first horseman was released upon the death of Christ. Others suggest that the seal was broken upon the end of Romes golden age (96180 ce).
In his vision, John saw the throne of God. He also saw that God held a book that was sealed with seven seals (see Revelation 5:1). Jesus Christ was the only one worthy to open this book, which He did, one seal at a time.
