If someone accidentally adds dots to your address when emailing you, youll still get that email. For example, if your email is johnsmith@gmail.com, you own all dotted versions of your address: john.smith@gmail.com.
The Gmail + trick uses whats called plus addressing to quickly create unique email addresses that can receive mail in an existing email account. All you have to do is add a + symbol and any word or combination of characters after your username and before the @ symbol.

Adding dots doesnt change your address, so dots arent why you got someone elses mail. Instead, the sender probably mistyped or forgot the correct address. For example, if someone meant to email john.43.smith@gmail.com but typed john.smith@gmail.com, the message went to you because you own johnsmith@gmail.com.
Hide importance markers in Gmail Using a browser, open Gmail. In the top right, click Settings. Click the Inbox tab. In the Importance markers section, select No markers. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.
Heres how it works: In Gmail, you can add a + symbol and any word you want to the end of your email address, and it will still docHub your inbox. For example, if your email address is john@gmail.com, you can use john+shopping@gmail.com, john+work@gmail.com, or john+anythingyouwant@gmail.com.
GMail considers all variations of dots or no-dots to be the same name, so if you delete it, you delete it all. You can tell the system sending mail to you to put the dot in another place, or not at all, it will still get to you.
