You can use an ellipsisthree consecutive periods, with one space around each ( . . . )to leave out extra or unnecessary words. The ellipsis represents information that you are omitting from a quotation.
You can use the escape character in PowerShell to include double quotes within a string. In PowerShell, the backtick ( ` ) is used as an escape character. Here is an example. In this example, the backtick before each double quote tells PowerShell to treat the quote as a literal character, not as a string delimiter.
Clarifying a quotation You can add words to a quote in square brackets to make its meaning clearer. This is known as interpolation.
Words can be added or changed to a quote by using brackets. Changes can be used to correct tense or to add necessary information.
You can shorten quotes by removing words from the middle of the quote and adding ellipses to indicate that you have removed some words. Shortening quotes helps the reader focus on the key information. You can remove words that are redundant or irrelevant to the point you are making.
Single quotes and spaces are both removed from the string after including both characters in the parameter. Here, Trim() converts the string into a character array. In PowerShell, this is simply a matter of typecasting using [char[]]string.
The short answer is that if youre using quotation marks, its not permissible to change anything the speaker said. However, its okay not to include meaningless filler words and sounds like um and you know. Beyond that, different organizations have different rules and policies, so consult with your editor.
