Click the Basic Settings tab. Click the Automatic button. Then choose desired printing resolution from Fast (300 dpi) or Fine (600 dpi) with the slider bar.
A print resolution of 600 dpi is essential for printing high quality graphics, unusually small font sizes, and the smallest of scannable barcodes. The main reason to choose a 600 dpi printer would be to fulfill the needs of specific applications where lower resolution printers cant comply with barcode label standards.
Recommended minimum resolution for printing is 300 DPI. This resolution provides ample detail for the size of the print without creating an unnecessarily large file size. At 300 DPI, there are 300 dots of ink for every inch of your printed image.
The necessary DPI for print work depends on what youre doing. 300 dpi is sufficient for a simple flyer or business letter. A professional photographer, however, may not want to consider anything below 1200 dpi. If people are not going to view your prints close-up, you can get away with a lower DPI.
How to Make a Printer Print High Quality (The Factors With the Biggest Impact) Clean Your Copier. Use High Quality Paper. Match Printer Settings to the Paper. Check Your Toner Levels. Check the Toner Drum. Prevent Overheating. Reduce Humidity.
The higher the dpi the better the resolution and the better copy/print quality. For example, 1200 X 1200 dpi will give you better resolution or copy/print quality than 600 X 600 dpi, thus giving you better copy/print quality and better half tones.
So a 1200 dpi printer uses 1200 dots of ink in every inch to make up the colours. If you were printing a 300 PPI image, then every pixel would be made up of 16 smaller ink dots (1200 DPI x 1200 DPI / 300 PPI x 300 PPI). A lower DPI would have fewer ink dots making up each pixel, which would make the colour look worse.
Generally, 300 DPI is great for small prints, while 600 DPI is amazing for large prints. If youre scanning documents or photos to be used on the web or in emails, 300 dpi is more than enough. If you want to print large photos or blow them up to poster size, 600 dpi will give you better results.
