For example, you can format a 10-digit number, such as 5555551234, as (555) 555-1234. Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. How to select cells or ranges? On the Home tab, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Number. In the Category box, click Special. In the Type list, click Phone Number.
Select the cells containing the phone numbers that you want to format. Right-click on the selected cells and choose Format Cells. In the Format Cells dialog box, go to the Number tab. In the left panel, select Number as the category.
To remove spaces between numbers and words, press Ctrl + H, press the Spacebar in the Find what field, then click Replace all. You can also use the SUBSTITUTE function to remove extra space between characters. To remove extra space from the beginning or end of a value, use the TRIM function.
The easiest option is to use Ctrl+H and replace (selection cells only) the unnecessary characters with blank space. The MID tears apart the input string into single characters. VALUE attempts to change each character into a number. Non-numerals will result in an error, so IFERROR changes those out for a blank ().
Press CTRL+1 to open the Format Cell. This should ensure that you get your leading zero, and that the spaces are added. Excel also has a format under the Special category just for Phone Numbers. If you click that, then click Custom it will insert the Phone format which you can then edit as you see fit.
5. Using Trim Spaces Start by selecting the spaces that you wish to delete. Find the Trim Spaces button (this is usually located on the Ablebits Data tab) and choose the option that best describes the space you wish to delete. When youve decided, simply click on the Trim Spaces button to remove the space.
To remove all formatting in Excel, just do the following: Select the cell or range of cells from which you want to clear formatting. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to the Clear button. Select the Clear Formats option.
