LaTeX will automatically indent the first line of each paragraph that doesnt immediately follow a section heading. If youd like to get rid of an indent, you can use the \noindent command: \section{Introduction} This is the first paragraph.
The \\ command tells LaTeX to start a new line. It has an optional argument, extra-space , that specifies how much extra vertical space is to be inserted before the next line.
The \hspace command adds horizontal space. The length of the space can be expressed in any terms that LaTeX understands, i.e., points, inches, etc. You can add negative as well as positive space with an \hspace command. Adding negative space is like backspacing.
The paragraphs are indented automatically at the beginning of the text which can be prevented by using the command \noindent and can be forced in paragraphs using the command \indent. The indentation provided by and set by the \hangindent and \setlength command respectively creates hanging indents in paragraphs.
Thus to produce a horizontal blank space of 20 mm in the middle of a paragraph one would type \hspace{20 mm} . This is the first paragraph of some text. It is separated from the second paragraph by a vertical skip of 10 millimetres.
1 Answer. just use \hspace{1em} at the start of a line where you want an indentation.
LaTeX generally ignores spaces at the beginning of lines. Paragraphs are delineated by a blank line -- one which does not contain even comments (anything following a % until the end of a line is a comment). See also the \par command.
There are three commands here that work the same in the example: \\ (two backslashes) \newline. \hfill \break.
