For this lesson you need to open: World Sales-9 from your Sample Files folder. Iamp;#39;m going to begin this lesson by opening the Select Data Source dialog. To do that Iamp;#39;ll right-click just inside the border of the chart and then choose: Select Data, from the Shortcut Menu. And the Select Data Source dialog is displayed. Notice that the Select Data Source dialog lists the three series in the chart (USA, Europe and Other), and the three categories shown on the chart, thatamp;#39;s: January, February and March. Also notice that thereamp;#39;s a checkbox next to each of the Series and each of the Categories. You can check and uncheck these boxes to apply a chart filter. This is just a different and more involved way to do the same thing that you did in Lesson 5-10, when you applied a chart filter. Iamp;#39;d like to add a new data series to this chart. In Excel, legend keys are linked to the data in the plot area, so changing the color of a legend key will also change the color of the data in the plot area. You can right-click or tap-and-hold on a legend key, and choose Format Legend, to change the color, pattern, or image used to represent the data.
After legend entries have been deleted, the only way to restore them is to remove and recreate the legend that contained them by setting the HasLegend property for the chart to False and then back to True.
Show or hide a chart legend or data table Select a chart and then select the plus sign to the top right. Point to Legend and select the arrow next to it. Choose where you want the legend to appear in your chart.
Select your chart and on the Chart Design tab, choose Select Data. Choose on the legend name you want to change in the Select Data Source dialog box, and select Edit. Note: You can update Legend Entries and Axis Label names from this view, and multiple Edit options might be available.
On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data. In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, select the legend entry that you want to change. Click Edit. Tip: To add a new legend entry, click Add, or to remove a legend entry, click Remove.
To hide the data table, uncheck the Data Table option. Click anywhere in the chart to show the Chart tab on the ribbon. Click Format to open the chart formatting options. In the Chart pane, expand the Legend section. Add or edit the Legend to meet your needs. Use the switch to show or hide the legend.
Under Chart Tools, on the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data. In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, click the data series that you want to change the order of. Click the Move Up or Move Down arrows to move the data series to the position that you want.
Edit or rearrange a series Right-click your chart, and then choose Select Data. In the Legend Entries (Series) box, click the series you want to change. Click Edit, make your changes, and click OK. To rearrange a series, select it, and then click Move Up or Move Down .
