hey defenders welcome back in this video i want to show you guys how we can implement log rotation within the open distro version of elasticsearch so i posted a previous video a few months ago detailing how we could create a index policy within elasticsearch using their basic license however for users that want to use the open distro version of elasticsearch we can also do the same and this is a really nice feature to implement because what this will do is remove old indexes that we necessarily uh donamp;#39;t care about anymore so as indexes docHub a certain age and we need to clear space for new indexes within our cluster this will automatically remove old indexes for us and clear up space for new ones so youamp;#39;re not having to manually come in every so often and delete old indexes so we really love automation and scalability and this feature gives us the ability to do both so letamp;#39;s go ahead and jump into it so if we jump in here into index management we will fi

We may also delete an index directly by editing indexes. conf, and removing the stanza of the index. Restart the indexer, then delete directories of the index.
Removing log indices by using Elasticsearch API Identify the indices that you want to delete based on your list from Step 1. From the navigation window, prepare the request to delete your index. DELETE /{your index name} Click the green triangle to make the API call. Repeat the DELETE command delete more indices.
Locate a lookup or table dataset that you want to delete. Select Manage Delete.
1. Use clean command in CLI - splunk clean eventdata -index ** , it will delete the indexed data permanently. 2. Use delete command in Splunk Web- **index= | delete , it will make your data non searchable from this particular index.
Using the | delete command would be the best choice, and once data rolls to frozen it will then completely get deleted. (note, all data in that index will be removed).
There are three methods of achieving this. To delete EVERYTHING in an index, you need to use the clean command from the command line. To delete specific events, you need to add the candelete roll to your account, search for the data to delete and then pipe to the delete command.
To delete the index, you must roll over the data stream so a new write index is created. You can then use the delete index API to delete the previous write index.
The clean command deletes event data, global data, and user account data from your Splunk installation. Permanently remove event data from an index by typing, ./splunk clean eventdata. Set the index parameter to delete event data from a specific index.
