Is there a cost associated with clearinghouse use? It does not cost anything to register your company. However, it will cost employers a nominal fee to conduct full and limited queries on drivers. Learn more about query payment plans for the FMCSA clearinghouse here.
Drivers are not required to register for the Clearinghouse. However, a driver will need to be registered to provide electronic consent in the Clearinghouse if a prospective or current employer needs to conduct a full query of the drivers Clearinghouse recordthis includes all pre-employment queries.

The FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse has felt like a burden for many companies since it was established in January 2020, but its advantages have become clear over the past year.
One major change coming in November 2024 is the revoking or denial of CDLs/CLPs for drivers with prohibited statuses in the FMCSA Clearinghouse. This status results from drivers having drug and/or alcohol violations recorded in the Clearinghouse.
Driver violation records will be available in the Clearinghouse for five years from the date of the violation determination, or until the violation is resolved through the successful completion of the return-to-duty (RTD) process and follow-up testing plan, whichever is later.
The Clearinghouse final rule requires the following: Employers must query the Clearinghouse for current and prospective employees drug and alcohol violations before permitting those employees to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on public roads.
