In addition to duty and possible excise tax, goods imported into the United States are subject to user fees. The user fee and amount collected by CBP depends on the type of entry and mode of transportation used to bring the goods into the United States.
The customs broker or customs clearance agent charges a custom clearance fee to cater to the expenses of preparing and filing customs documents. Fees are payable as one price for a bundle of services, as a flat per piece, or as a percentage of the shipment value.
We may assess a service fee to obtain the release of your shipment from any regulatory agency or for special services you may request. We may charge a fee for standard customs clearance service in some countries/territories or in some FedEx subsidiaries.
US Customs collects this fee on most shipments that enter the country. Its calculated at 0.3464% of the entered value (the cost of the merchandise, as entered on the commercial invoice you provide to your customs broker), with a minimum of $27.23 and a maximum of $528.33.
Security clearance costs vary depending on the level required: Confidential Clearance: The most basic level, ranging between $200 to $3,000. Costs are lower due to less intensive background checks. Secret Clearance: This mid-level clearance typically ranges from $3,000 to $15,000.
The customs clearance fee is paid directly to the customs broker or customs clearance agent to cover the cost of submitting documentation and processing duties payment. This can be charged as a flat for per service, as one price for a bundle of services, or as a percentage of the shipment value.
The average cost to process a SECRET clearance can run from several hundred dollars to $3,000, depending upon individual factors. The average cost to process a TOP SECRET clearance is between $3,000 and about $15,000, depending upon individual factors.
