The easiest way to do so is by simply writing the sed code in double quotes. This particular example will replace each occurrence of Zachs with Zachs in the file named somestrings. txt. By placing double quotes around the sed code, we are able to escape the single quote.
Just use for the outer quotes in your sed and you can then use in the replacement. You dont want + unless you might have more than one consecutive and you want to replace all of them. If you do, use sed -r s/\\\+/\\/g .
Sed Syntax for Deleting Lines The address is either the line number of the lines on which you want sed to operate, or a pattern, which well discuss below. X refers to what you want to do with the lines once theyve been matched. In our case, since we want to delete lines, we use the letter d.
A very simple option is to use sed as @Dani proposes if you want to remove all double-quotes. Nevertheless, if you want to remove only internal quotes, I would suggest removing all quotes and adding one at the beginning and one at the end as follows. sed s/|/|/g adds a quote before and after each pipe.
How to Use sed to Remove all Double Quotes from File -i specifies that the file should be modified in-place. s specifies that we would like to substitute one pattern with another pattern. \ is used to specify that we would like to substitue the double quotes (we use a backslash as an escape character)
tr -d \ deletes all double quotes.
