Getting an EIN is free and easy; simply go online at the IRS website, fill out Form SS-4 with basic information about your business, such as its address, type of entity, etc., then submit it for processing.
Starting an LLC in Maryland will include the following steps: Register Your Company Name. Name a Resident Agent. File Articles of Organization. Apply for a Business Identification Number. Create an Operating Agreement.
Technically it is advised to wait until your LLC is formed before the EIN is obtained, for two reasons: you want to make sure that the name you chose is in fact registered and was not rejected (for whatever reason), and secondly, you do want to provide the IRS with the exact date of formation.
How to change an incorrect EIN. Dont submit a new application if you made a mistake on your original EIN form. Instead, send a letter to the IRS explaining the error and providing the correct information. This letter should be signed by an authorized representative of your company and include your current EIN.
A single-member LLC that is a disregarded entity that does not have employees and does not have an excise tax liability does not need an EIN. It should use the name and TIN of the single member owner for federal tax purposes.
