A quick way to check the EGT probe is to disconnect it from whatever device you are using to read it put an ohm meter across both output wires (the wire colors are usually red yellow). If you get an open reading then the probe is probably bad. If you get somewhere between 3 to 12 ohms then it may still be okay.
When you decide to start leaning the engine, pull the mixture back slowly. As the EGT temperature climbs, it will eventually slow down. Finally, the temperature will peak (docHub the hottest temperature) and start dropping again. Watch for the temperature to start dropping.
Some solutions include larger turbos, water injection, and aftermarket intercoolers, but these tend to be very expensive upgrades. Manta Performance can lower your EGTs without costing you a fortune! As the mixture is leaned and we move to the right, all tracked parameters increase and peak, but at different points. For example, the most HP is available at around 100 degrees (F) rich of peak EGT (ROP). (For economy, many airframe manufacturers recommend running the engine in this range, usually 50-75 degrees ROP.)
As you pull the mixture back, the EGT will rise. If you keep leaning it, at some point it will start to drop. That is Lean of Peak. Enrich until it gets as high as it will go and that is Peak.
LoP operation means flying the aircraft by leaning it until you get peak EGT and then continuing the leaning process to a certain number of degrees lean of peak EGT (the number of degrees would depend on how you wish to run the engine the higher the power output the more you would lean).
Inspect the sensor for any build-up of contaminants and clean with a clean, dry cloth as required.
