this is a sputter profile of a multi-layer material the first thing we will do is to identify what this profile looks like by doing a very rough estimate of the intensities based on regions so iamp;#39;ve automatically created regions on all of these high resolution spectra and what we will do is we will go to the report spec page and using the custom report weamp;#39;ll copy through the named names for the regions into the name formula field so that when i say area report i get a profile in terms of intensities as a function of etch time then i say add profile and what that did was it added a profile to the original data file so that if i do control f8 i will switch to the perspective of the depth profile so if i select here a line of spectra and display them and then i do control f8 this line here marks the the the point on the profile that was created using the data collected from these regions and if i wanted to see a range of these spectra where do these spectra appear letamp;#

For some materials, plasmon loss peaks may occur. These involve an enhanced probability for loss of a specific amount of energy due to the interaction between the photoelectron and other electrons.
Peaks from the XPS spectra give relative number of electrons with a specific binding energy. The shorter the peak, the less electrons represented.
The main cause of the peak shift in XPS spectra is mostly related to chemical shifts due to the presence or absence of the chemical states of the element having different formal oxidation state. And the intensity may also be changed bcos it is directly linked to the number of atoms in the respective chemical state.
Satellite peaks are used to identify shake-ups, energy loss, plasmons, and other unknown peaks. In the XPS spectrum, these appear as peaks on the high binding energy sides of the primary peak.
Each element produces a set of characteristic XPS peaks. These peaks correspond to the electron configuration of the electrons within the atoms, e.g., 1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, etc. The number of detected electrons in each peak is directly related to the amount of element within the XPS sampling volume.
The blue curve indicates a 5-year derivative. The strength of the XPS technique relies on that the chemical environment of an atom has a pronounced effect on the assessed binding energies (BEs) of core-level electrons, the effect commonly referred to as the chemical shift [2].
In viewing the photoelectron spectrum of an element, you are also able to: Distinguish the different orbital levels in an atom. Determine the electron configuration of an atom. Each peak in a photoelectron spectrum represents a different orbital level where electrons can be found.
These satellite peaks arise from localized charge transfer excitations that accompany the creation of a core hole 2. The presence and intensity of these satellite peaks can be used to determine the covalent character of the interaction between the Cd cation and the oxygen ligands 3.
