What is a CRT file? A file with . crt extension is a security certificate file that is used by secure websites for establishing secure connections from web server to a browser.
A CER file contains a public key, information about the key owner, and the digital signature of the certificate authority (CA) that issued the certificate. The digital signature allows the recipient of the certificate to verify its authenticity and ensure that it has not been tampered with.
Press Windows Key + R Key together, type certmgr. msc, and hit enter. You will get a new window with the list of Certificates installed on your computer. Locate the certificate you want to delete and then click on the Action button then, click on Delete.
CRT = The CRT extension is used for certificates. The certificates may be encoded as binary DER or as ASCII PEM. The CER and CRT extensions are nearly synonymous.
CER and CRT are two common file extensions used for digital certificates. CER files contain encoded certificates in a binary DER format while CRT files contain Base64 encoded certificates in a text format. While CER and CRT files contain essentially the same certificate data, they use different encoding formats.
