Why is Final Draft not letting me type?

The program is in Reader mode and needs to be activated. Go to Help Activate and enter your Final Draft Customer Number (note that it cannot be a Trial number, which starts with KFDT / EFDT / XFDT). Click Activate and once the activation is complete, all program functions will be enabled.

Why is my Final Draft in reader mode?

After the Trial expires, the program will move to Reader mode. Reader mode allows you to open and view, but not edit or save, any Final Draft script.

How do I remove characters from the Final Draft?

How to remove items such as character names from the SmartType list Go to Document SmartType; Click on Characters; Highlight the character name you want to remove; Click Delete.

How to fix a corrupted Final Draft file?

How do I rebuild a corrupted Final Draft script? Go to File Export (in FD13 / 12 / 11 the command is File Export Document / Script); Direct this window to save the file to the Desktop; Change the file name to something simple like bob; Change the Save As Type menu (Windows) or the Format menu (Mac) to Plain Text;

Why is the Final Draft not working?

One possible scenario is that you have a newer and an older version of Final Draft installed and the other version is open. Only one version of Final Draft can be open at one time, so check to see if another version is running. If there is, close it and you should then be able to open the version you want.

What is typewriter mode Final Draft?

Applies to: Final Draft 13. Yes, go to View Typewriter to turn on Typewriter mode. In this mode, the typing area is fixed at about 1/3 of the way down the screen and as text is typed, the script scrolls up instead of the typing area scrolling down. There are two options to indicate the typing area.

Why wont Final Draft let me save?

Make sure there are no commas, colons, slashes, ampersands or anything else thats not a plain letter or number. You can if necessary rename the PDF after its been saved out of Final Draft. Irregular characters in any of the folder / subfolder names into which youre trying to save the PDF might also cause problems.

How do I edit characters in Final Draft?

How can I change a character name throughout the script? Go to Edit Rename Character (FD13) or Replace Character (FD12 / 11 / 10); From the dropdown menu, choose the character whose name you want to change; Enter the characters new name in the field -- capitalize only the first letter -- and click OK.
