Resolution Note the AMI ID in the error message. Open the Amazon EC2 console, and from the navigation pane, choose AMIs. Choose the AMI that you noted in the error message, open the Actions menu, and then choose Deregister AMI. Use the EC2 console or the AWS CLI to delete the EBS snapshot.
If you create an AMI from an existing instance, once the AMI is created, AWS creates a snapshot of the root storage as well as all the EBS volumes that are attached to the instance. When you deregister the AMI, it is simply deleted.
A manual snapshot is a full backup that is deleted only when you manually delete it using the AWS Management Console or AWS CLI. You cannot manually delete an automatic snapshot because automatic snapshots are deleted only when the snapshots retention period expires or you delete the snapshots cluster.
Click Snapshot, and then select Snapshot Manager. The Snapshot Manager window opens. Select a snapshot. Click Delete.
When you delete or deregister an Amazon EBS-backed AMI, any snapshots created for the volume of the instance during the AMI creation process are retained. If you accidentally delete the AMI, then you can launch an identical AMI using one of the retained snapshots.
In the Disk Utility app on your Mac, choose View Show APFS Snapshots. In the sidebar, select a volume. The APFS snapshots for the selected volume are listed in a table at the bottom of the window. Select one or more snapshots in the table, then click the Delete Snapshot button .
Using AWS Console 02 Navigate to Amazon EC2 console at . 03 In the navigation panel, under Images, choose AMIs. 04 Select the Amazon Machine Image (AMI) that you want to examine. 05 Select the Details tab from the console bottom panel and copy the AMI ID attribute value.
Resolution Open the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) console, and then select AMIs. From the dropdown list, select Owned by me. Choose the gear symbol in the upper-right corner. Turn on the Product code option, and then select Confirm. Select the AMIs that you no longer need. Select Actions, Deregister AMI.
