okay um i have to go to a vmware fusion to do the uh processing and the windows so um for xps we use a software called advantage provided by the thermal scientific so iamp;#39;m going to click this one double click and wait for this thing to fully open up okay and then go to file new and data grid all right and then we will import all right um go up and these are standard so i probably want to go through this one and take first one here so we have several spectrum spectra okay carbon 1s and copper 2p and this is a copper oj and oxygen1s and survey so weamp;#39;re going to do the survey first select survey and click open okay and then you can click this icon to expand it oops where did it go shrink it down yeah we have to um we got wrong um grid okay so binding energy goes from zero to above 1300 you can actually go to display and turn off binding energy and express this in terms of kinetic energy you notice that one two the other way around um because they are in the opposite directi

XPS is more commonly used than UPS and is often be referred to as Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis (ECSA). In contrast to UPS, it is often used for composition analysis, to determine what elemental composition is present at the surface of the material (quantity and types of elements).
Although UPS has a high energy resolution ( 0.1 eV), the spectrum is the convolution of valence (filled) band and conduction (empty) band states, the latter of which are due to the photoexcitation of valence electrons into the conduction band.
X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) or Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis (ESCA) is a technique which analyzes the elements constituting the sample surface, its composition, and chemical bonding state by irradiating x-rays on the sample surface, and measuring the kinetic energy of the photoelectrons emitted
XPS can measure elemental composition as well as the chemical and electronic state of the atoms within a material. XPS spectra are obtained by irradiating a solid surface with a beam of X-rays and measuring the kinetic energy of electrons that are emitted from the top 1-10 nm of the material.
Initial state effects describe any effect that results from the electronic structure of an atom/ion undergoing photoelectron emission that was present prior to the photoelectron emission process. These effects are split into two subgroups: Spin-induced interactions present within the photoelectron emitting atom/ion.
XPS is sometimes referred to as PESIS (photoelectron spectroscopy for inner shells), whereas the lower-energy radiation of UV light is referred to as PESOS (outer shells) because it cannot excite core electrons.
XPS - Ideal technique for determining oxidation states For the detected elements, energy spectra with high resolution were also acquired in the Tascon laboratory to quantitatively evaluate the existing binding states. The degree of oxidation was determined by evaluating the S2p and Mo3d spectra (see Figure 1a and b).
