To disinfect and clean toys, toothbrushes, and other washable items, fill a container with hydrogen peroxide and let the items soak for 20 minutes, then let them air dry. Using hydrogen peroxide disinfectants and cleaners in your home is an eco-friendly, economical, and safe way to keep things clean and healthy.
Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment for Light-Colored Carpets Hydrogen peroxide is another powerful cleaning tool that can help you remove old stains from carpet.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a colorless liquid composed of hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Its a mild antiseptic, disinfectant, and bleaching agent. When applied to stains, it releases oxygen, which breaks down the chemical bonds in the stains molecules. This reaction lifts the stain, making it easier to wipe away.
Sponge the stain with cool water or soak it in cool water for about 30 minutes. Pretreat with a prewash stain remover. Launder; if safe for the fabric, add chlorine bleach to the wash.
The bleaching power of chlorine bleach is much stronger than oxygen bleach (commonly known as hydrogen peroxide) and can damage many fibres such as cotton and wool very quickly. Hydrogen peroxide is not as strong and can be less damaging to fibres. Both kill most bacteria. Both are used to brighten whites in laundry.
Hydrogen Peroxide Add one cup of hydrogen peroxide to whites in the washing machine to brighten them. Add one cup to a load of diapers to whiten, deodorize, and disinfect. Take care when using the product on darker colors; test it on a swatch of fabric before using.
Wash the stained item with cold water and normally used soap or detergent. You can also soak the entire garment in a bowl of hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the stained clothing from the hydrogen peroxide and rinse it out in cold water.
