If you think someone may be using your SSN to work, check your Social Security Personal Earnings and Benefit Statement. You can get a copy by calling 1-800-772-1213, or online at .ssa.gov/online/ssa-7004.pdf.
Go to the Reports tab, select Tax Reports and click the Wage and Tax Register report to verify additional information. Note: Use the Show Social Security Number field at the top of the W-2 Preview and Wage and Tax Register reports to unmask SSNs. Select Yes from the dropdown and click Refresh.
If you know your Social Security information has been compromised, you can request to Block Electronic Access. This is done by calling our National 800 number (Toll Free 1-800-772-1213 or at our TTY number at 1-800-325-0778).
W-2s include personal information like your Social Security number. A masked SSN is an alternative to using the complete SSN, IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), or IRS Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN). The masked SSN displays only the last four digits of an individuals identifying number and is shown in the format -XX-1234 or ***-**-1234.
