Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2) The scope of coverage expands docHubly with Level 2, as attendants must be prepared to handle more serious medical emergencies including chest injuries, fractures, head and spinal injuries, shock and sudden illness.
Take a full clinical history from the patient, any relatives or friends, and other staff. Review the patients notes and charts: Study both absolute and trended values of vital signs. Check that important routine medications are prescribed and being given.
Assessment of a sick or injured person Assess the nature of any injury or illness and set priorities for the care required. If the patient appears collapsed, first check their response to a shouted command and to a firm squeeze of the shoulders. If the collapsed patient does not respond, then CPR may be required.
The Level 2 course is a total of 36 hours (not including breaks) of training, which is divided among 5 days. A lot of the first aid content and skills that are covered in the Occupational First Aid Level 2 course are similar to the Level 1 course, except a lot more in-depth.
Students must: 1) pass a multiple-choice exam with 70% or higher and 2) pass the practical exam with 70% to be successful in obtaining the OFA 2 certification.
Level 2 first aid training is a practical, hand-on first aid course and includes: demonstrating the principles of primary emergency care; assessing and controlling an emergency scene in the workplace; demonstrating emergency life support for adults, children and infants (including performing cardio-pulmonary
The role and responsibilities of an OFA attendant are to: Promptly provide injured or ill workers with a level of care within the scope of their training. Objectively record reported signs and symptoms of injuries, illnesses and exposures. Recognize a seriously injured worker quickly.
OFA Level 2 also involves much more rigorous practical skills testing than a typical first aid course to make sure that everyone who is certified has demonstrated that they are ready to put their first aid skills into action when a real emergency happens on the job.
