Click on the file type field to open the file type drop down menu. Select Recover Text from Any File (.) Open the damaged file (if you can) Delete the binary data at the start and end of the file before saving. Save the file.
Steps Navigate to the File tab in Word. Then click Open. Select Browse and go to the location or folder where the corrupted file is stored. Select the corrupted file and click the drop-down arrow next to the Open button. Click Open and Repair. If successful, the document will open.

Before you finalize a document and send it to its intended recipient, its important that you clean up the document to remove revisions, versions, and hidden information.
Resolution Open Microsoft Word. Go to File Open. Browse to the corrupt document. Select the document, but dont open it yet. On the Open button, click the down arrow and select Open and Repair.
In Word: On the Edit menu, click Clear and then select Clear Formatting.
How to Fix Corrupted Files Perform a check disk on the hard drive. Running this tool scans the hard drive and attempts to recover bad sectors. Use the CHKDSK command.
