In simple terms, leverage is determined by a multiple such as 100x. This means for every $1 staked, you can trade with $100. However, its important to remember that leverage will not only boost profits but losses too. If your leveraged position is liquidated, it will be closed by the exchange.
For example, FTX.us requires 10% initial margin to enter a margin trade. However, FTX.us will liquidate the margin and close the trade if the margin value falls to 5% of the trade. The latter is called a maintenance margin, which is usually set at 50% of the initial margin.
FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, left, arrives at a federal courthouse in Manhattan on Feb. 16, 2023. Nearly all customers of FTX will get their money back, plus interest, after the cryptocurrency exchange imploded 17 months ago.
Since filing for bankruptcy, FTX has recovered up to $16 billion to repay customers, including about $12 billion in cash, and it says it will repay all customer claims in full, with interest.
Before we dive deeper into the strategies, lets define what precisely a 100x return means in the crypto world. A 100x return refers to multiplying your investment by 100, resulting in a whopping 10,000% return. For example, turning $10,000 into $1 million or $1,000 into $100,000 would be considered a 100x return.
What is 100x leverage in crypto? 100x leverage in crypto means a trader can open a position worth 100 times their original investment, docHubly amplifying potential gains or losses from small price movements.
In the above example, a 10% favorable price move multiplied by 100x leverage equals 1,000% profit for Alice on the trade (minus fees). In the simplest terms, traders think of leverage as a multiplier for both profit and risk. When using 100x leverage, the risks can be high.
With leverage, you control a position worth $10,000 (10x investment), but remember that leverage amplifies both profits and losses: While it can maximise gains, it increases risk. In this example, a 1% BTC price move results in a 10% gain or loss due to 10x leverage.
