in this video im going to share why your cv photo or resume photo is damaging your chances or if you dont have a photo why it could if you add one so i covered this briefly in my cv advice series on how to write a cv specifically in my video on mistakes that are hurting your chances but the reason that i am dedicating a video specifically to this topic is because of how often i see it particularly done badly and its so widespread that i need to expand on this topic a little bit and also doing a slightly deeper dive would help you if you are applying for lots of jobs and youre wondering if theres anything that you can tweak about your cv so first and most importantly think about what your cv itself is for i explained this quite well in the video that i mentioned earlier so ill just let myself do the talking in a quick snippet from that video but i would like you to think about whether or not you should include a photo like this the purpose of your cv is to assess your suitability

Along with details such as your nationality, marital status, political or religious beliefs, photos of yourself should not be added to your resume. When it comes to your resume, always consider whether the information youre adding is relevant or beneficial to your job application.
In Canada, it is generally not necessary or expected to include a photo in your resume. In fact, it is often considered a best practice to omit a photo from your resume to avoid any potential discrimination based on appearance.
Candidates typically make their resumes no longer than one page to concisely summarize their qualifications. By excluding a picture of yourself, you can create more room to elaborate on your education, experience and skills. The extra space might also help your resume appear more organized, clean and legible.
Spring clean your resume this spring by doing these five things: Make Sure Your Resume Matches Your LinkedIn Profile. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread. Quantify Results, but Dont Go Overboard. Remove Old, Unimportant Jobs. Replace Vague Verbs with Compelling Action Words.
Employers recruitment processes must be fair, free from unconscious bias and centred around equality. A photo on your CV will undermine that. Not only that, but employers will expect you to know this so theyll likely think your CV is unprofessional if you include a picture of yourself.
What should a CV photo look like? A CV (or rsum) photo should be professional-looking. It should show your face and shoulders, be in front of a neutral background, and ideally be taken in neutral light. You can smile, but make sure to look into the camera properly.
Recruiters advise applicants to remove any CV photo and only focus on presenting achievements, skills, and experience relevant to the job.
While some recruiters argue that a photo lets them know whether youll fit in with their company culture, the general consensus is that employers prefer for you to focus on your skills, achievements and experience in your CV.
