hello and welcome my name is John strand in this video weamp;#39;re going to be talking about base64 encoding and decoding now the reason why weamp;#39;re talking about it is once again we have the bhi a cyber range for customers and friends and this is just basically a video to walk people through some of the challenges that utilize base64 now the reason why base64 actually exists is kind of interesting whenever you are transferring binary data or youamp;#39;re transferring data with special characters it can be encoded it can be drawable especially whenever youamp;#39;re dealing with protocols that are designed predominantly for sending text for example if youamp;#39;re looking at something like HTTP transports a lot of text and if we start sending binary we might get into trouble in fact we see this all the time especially with attacks like sequel injection where semicolons get interpreted and get executed so this is why protocols like this exist or different encoding formats l

What is Radix 64 Encoding? Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters.
Base64 encoding is a text encoding string that represents binary data into an ASCII string, allowing it to carry data stored in a binary format across channels. To better understand base64, we first need to understand data and channels.
Base64 is a more human-friendly representation of UUIDs: Its slightly shorter: 1.375 times the size of the raw data (22 characters), vs 2.25 times the size characters. Since it is case-sensitive, the shape of the IDs helps to distinguish between different IDs.
This error happens when the string that you are trying to transform contains a character not recognized by the basic Base 64 Alphabet. For example: abcd3RkPUYYYbvckj==, in this case, it is an underscore character.
How to use the Base64 encode online tool Choose the source of data from the Datatype field. Type the text, paste the URL, or select a file from your computer. If necessary, select the Base64 standard used to encode the data. If necessary, choose the output character encoding of the text data.
UUID is a widely used data type, and one of the approaches to encode it is by using Base64.
Base64 is used because some systems are restricted to ASCII characters but are actually used for all kinds of data. Base64 can camouflage this data as ASCII and thus help this data pass validation. Because some older systems think that data consists of 7-bit chunks (bytes), whereas modern ones use 8-bit bytes.
UUIDs are constructed in a sequence of digits equal to 128 bits. The ID is in hexadecimal digits, meaning it uses the numbers 0 through 9 and letters A through F. The hexadecimal digits are grouped as 32 hexadecimal characters with four hyphens: XX-X-X-X-.
