The useEffect cleanup function is invoked when an element that makes use of the useEffect hook is taken from the screen. It is in charge of tidying up any unintended consequences that damage the code. Thus, before the component is unmounted, it makes sure that everything is in working order.
To update state in React components, well use either the this. setState function or the updater function returned by the React. useState() Hook in class and function components, respectively.
Another way to clean up an effect in useEffect is to use a clean-up function. A clean-up function is a function that is called after the main effect function has been completed, but before the component is unmounted or the effect is re-run.
As the name implies, useEffect cleanup is a function in the useEffect Hook that allows us to tidy up our code before our component unmounts. When our code runs and reruns for every render, useEffect also cleans itself up using the cleanup function.
You can reset a components state by passing a different key to a component. In this example, the Reset button changes the version state variable, which we pass as a key to the Form . When the key changes, React re-creates the Form component (and all of its children) from scratch, so its state gets reset.
You can achieve this by passing an argument called initialState to the useState hook within your custom hook. The second requirement is to expose a reset function handler to the consumer. You can achieve this by returning a reset function from your custom hook that resets the state to the initial state.
Cleaning up side effects in React is a method of removing side effects that are no longer required. This, in turn, avoids memory leaks, which occur when your program or application attempts to perform an unnecessary operation or update a state memory location that no longer exists.
