Free up additional hard drive space by deleting unnecessary files from the scratch disk, or by moving your files off the scratch disk to another storage location.
You can close some programs or delete some files, empty the scratch disk without opening Photoshop by going to the Applications folder and finding “Photoshop” in the list of processes in Activity Monitor, or resetting your preferences by deleting the file named “Adobe Photoshop Settings.” If none of these things work, ...
How to clear your Photoshop scratch disk In Photoshop, open the Edit menu and click Purge. Select All to clear all caches, or choose an individual cache to clear (Clipboard, Histories, Video Cache).
Defragment Your Hard Disk This is because Photoshop requires contiguous, unfragmented free space on the scratch disk drive. If you are getting the "scratch disk is full" error message and your scratch disk drive does show a good amount of free space, you may need to run a disk defragmentation utility.
Photoshop uses three different memory caches that allow users to revert to a previous version of the project, known as Undo and History, and to copy an image from one location to another, known as Clipboard. As you work on an image and the memory caches grow, you may experience slow computer performance.
On a Mac, you can do this by going to the Finder menu and selecting “Show Hidden Files.” On Windows, you can do this by opening the Control Panel and going to “Appearance and Personalization. ” Once you've found the temp files, you can delete them by simply deleting the folder (or folders) that contain them.
By deleting Photoshop's cache, you're essentially clearing the scratch disk. This will resolve the “scratch disk is full” error and get Photoshop working correctly again. The only downside of clearing the app's cache is that previous versions of your projects will be removed from your Mac.
To delete all the Photoshop memory off your RAM (from Undo, Clipboard, and History), go to the Edit menu, select Purge and select the item you want to purge. If you select All, it wipe out everything off your RAM.
If a scanned photo has distracting specks, Photoshop offers the Spot Cleaning Brush Tool. Work at up to 200% visibility so that specks are more visible. Using the Spot Cleaning Brush Tool, click to remove each spot and move on to the next one. If you don't like the effect, undo it.
Note: If Photoshop cannot launch because the scratch disk is full, hold down the Cmd + Opt keys (Mac) or Ctrl + Alt keys (Windows) on launch to set a new scratch disk. I was able to reset the scratch disk and so far Photoshop is launching fine. Hope this helps someone!
