hello and welcome to the 3m lab in this video you will learn how to collect a sample from a high touch surface to measure cleaning efficacy using the 3m clean trace ATP monitoring system you will need a 3m clean trace ATP surface test uxc and the 3m clean trace luminometer LX 25 before you begin make sure your surface is dry when you are ready to collect your sample remove the surface test uxc from the device sleeve taking care to touch only the blue handle do not let the swab touch any surface except that which is to be sampled hold the test between thumb and forefinger so you can easily rotate the swab touch the swab to the surface you are testing and apply enough pressure to cause the wand to flex move your swab in an overlapping zig-zag pattern that covers a 10 centimeter by 10 centimeter or a 4 inch by 4 inch square area during sample collection rotate the swab to ensure sufficient contact between the swab and the surface being sampled continue this process until your full sample

A luminometer is the name given to a bench mounted or handheld instrument that is used to measure weak emissions of visible light being produced by a sample. Hygienas luminometers, when working with ATP swabs, use bioluminescence to detect residual ATP as an indicator of surface cleanliness.
ATP tests verify a surface is clean and microbial tests verify the sanitizer is working. These two methods are providing information about two different things. For cleaning validation, food processors should use microbial tests as part of their validation study.
ATP bioluminescence meters, which measure the concentration of ATP as relative light units (RTU) in organic material and living cells [16], are widely used in food and beverage industries because of their ease of use and fast turn-around of results.
A rack unit, often abbreviated as U or RU, is the unit of measure defined as 1.75 inches that is commonly used as the measurement of the vertical height of 19-inch and 23-inch rack frames and the server equipment that mounts in these frames. The height of frames or servers is expressed as multiples as rack units.
RLU test results less than 150 are in the Pass category. RLU test results between 150 and 299 are in the Caution category. RLU test results equal to or greater than 300 are in the Fail category. User can also eliminate the Caution category by using 150 RLU for the pass level and 151 RLU for the fail level.
ATP is the energy source of all living cells, including microbes such as bacteria. When the cell dies, ATP degrades rapidly. High ATP concentrations indicate a high number of live microbes in water. ATP assays can be used as a trending tool to monitor microbial contamination.
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, which is an energy molecule found in all living things. By testing for the presence of ATP on a surface, youre testing for the presence or growth of microorganisms, like bacteria.
The ATP luminometer measures the amount of light generated and provides information on the level of contamination in just seconds. The higher the reading, the more contamination present. BENEFITS: Optimizes and verifies that cleaning procedures are working.
ATP testing is conducted using a Luminometer, a device that measures ATP, and a testing swab. Once an area is cleaned, a swab of a surface is taken. Then, the swab is placed in the Luminometer to measure the ATP level. The reading on the device is measured in Relative Light Units (RLU).
Hold the swab between the thumb and forefinger in such a way that the swab can be rotated. Apply downward pressure. Do not touch the swab near the swab bud. Rotate swab during sampling.
