Tin will naturally darken over time, and to keep it looking its best we recommend using warm soapy water (washing-up liquid is ideal) and buffing with a soft cloth. Being a fairly soft metal, it is important that tin is cleaned carefully and gently to avoid scratching or warping.
Baking soda Rinse the metal item and shake dry. Dust with baking soda (it will stick to the damp areas), making sure to cover all rusty areas. Leave the item for an hour or so, then scour with steel wool or a metal brush, removing the rust down to the metal. (If cleaning a pan, use a scouring pad.) Rinse, and towel dry.
Thanks to tin's largely nonstick qualities, very little food is likely to adhere to it, and if it does, it won't do so stubbornly. Filling a tin-lined pan with water, adding a little dish soap, and leaving it to simmer is often enough to free any stuck-on bits, which can then be wiped away easily.
Tin is non-reactive and rarely toxic to humans, so it is a relatively safe coating for copper pans. Also of note, however: tin combined with carbon (organotins) are used in making plastics, food packages, pesticides, paints, and wood preservatives, and these combinations are highly toxic.
Cover the tinware in white vinegar for roughly 24 hours until the rust has dissolved. Be sure to use enough white vinegar to submerge the tinware. If you don't have enough white vinegar to cover the entirety of the object, you can soak a clean cloth in vinegar and wipe the tin.

Scrub the rust off of the tinware using a rough sponge or aluminum foil, The longer you soak your tinware, the easier it will be to scrub the rust off.

Oxidation transfers from the tin in the pan to the aluminum foil. The pan in the example took 10–12 minutes to noticeably brighten. You can simply empty the pan and wipe it down with a clean cloth, or give it a bath in some warm, soapy water. Voila!
